State Funding Lands to Future-Proof Deniliquin Airport
After several years of campaigning by Independent Member for Murray Helen Dalton, consecutive Councils and Edward River resident Russell Tait, Edward River Council has secured $4,575,000 from the NSW Government under the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development’s Airstrip Improvements in Rural and Remote NSW Program. The funding will deliver major upgrades to Deniliquin Regional Airport.
Mrs Dalton said she was pleased the Minns Government had listened to the needs of the Deniliquin community.
“This is a fantastic outcome. Our community has been asking for these upgrades for years, and I’m proud that we’ve been able to secure this funding to make Deniliquin safer, more connected, and ready for future opportunities.”
The upgrades will extend runway 06/24 by 381 metres, upgrade the taxiway for larger aircraft, install new aeronautical lighting systems, add critical infrastructure to support emergency services, freight, tourism and new aviation technologies.
Additional aircraft parking near the terminal, solar-powered lighting for Runway 12/30, an illuminated wind direction indicator, Upgraded Automated Weather Information System, PAPI lighting to assist pilots with landing.
Reliable air access is critical for timely delivery of health care, emergency services and economic participation, including tourism. This will be vital in keeping our community connected, safe and open for business.”
Mrs. Dalton said: “The upgrades will Improve safety and operational efficiency, ensure air ambulance access in all weather conditions, strengthen Deniliquin’s role as a regional hub for tourism, freight and essential services.”
“Deniliquin has waited a long time for these improvements. The town and surrounding communities will all benefit from this critical investment in rural infrastructure,” Helen added.
