Helen Dalton MP says New Griffith Base Hospital a big win for our area.

From Thursday 26 June, Griffith and surrounding communities will finally have access to a brand new $250 million hospital — a huge win for our region and something I’ve been fighting hard for over many years.

Independent Member for Murray Helen Dalton said: “I toured the new facility on the weekend at the public open day and it truly is an impressive facility.”

“I’m really happy to see the government boosting investment in our region, and I’m confident it will serve our growing Griffith community incredibly well,” Mrs. Dalton added.

The final touches are being made before the move into the new facility. All major health services (except dental) from the old hospital, the Ambulatory Care Hub and the Renal Unit will shift into the new building — bringing healthcare services under one roof for the first time.

Mrs. Dalton said: “I cannot stress enough how essential it is that health in rural and remote NSW is not neglected. People in the bush should receive the same level of care as their city cousins and many rural communities are still begging for quality health services so this is a step in the right direction.”

This is a major boost for local patients, families and frontline staff who’ve put up with outdated facilities for far too long.

There will be some temporary service changes during the transition:

  • Emergency care will stay in the old ED until 7:30am Wednesday 25 June, before switching to the new building. For non-urgent needs, locals are encouraged to see a GP or call Health Direct to ease pressure on staff.

  • Visitation and outpatient services will be limited on Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 June while the move is underway.

  • Parking and drop-off zones will remain largely the same.

  • Ambulance and emergency vehicles will now enter from Warrambool Street.

“This is a proud moment for Griffith and the wider region. For too long, people in the bush have been expected to put up with second-rate services. That’s not good enough,” Mrs. Dalton said.
