Dalton calls for nominations to recognise Murray’s local seniors

Member for Murray Helen Dalton is calling on community organisations and local councils to nominate outstanding seniors for special recognition as part of the upcoming NSW Seniors Festival.

The festival, which runs from 2 to 15 March, celebrates the role of older Australians under the theme “Live Life in Colour.”

Mrs Dalton said she will provide one formal recognition within each shire of the electorate to acknowledge individuals who have made a meaningful impact on their local community.

“Our seniors are the backbone of our regional towns, often working behind the scenes without seeking any credit,” Mrs Dalton said.

“This is an opportunity to shine a light on those who have dedicated years of service to our clubs, charities, and community groups.”

Mrs Dalton said the nomination process was specifically designed to identify “unsung heroes” whose contributions might otherwise go unacknowledged.

“I am particularly interested in hearing about nominees who have not previously received formal recognition,” Mrs Dalton said.

“We know there are many people doing the hard yards in the background who deserve our thanks. As an Independent representative, I want to ensure that it is the community itself that identifies who these leaders are.”

The NSW Seniors Festival theme for 2025 focuses on creativity, connection, and active living. Mrs Dalton said the festival is an important period to reflect on the positive impact older residents continue to have across the Murray electorate.

“Whether it is through volunteering, mentoring, or simply being a pillar of their local neighbourhood, our seniors ensure our regional communities remain resilient and connected,” Mrs Dalton said Nominations for the awards close on 13 February. Recognition will be presented during the festival period in March.

Nomination forms are available at Mrs Dalton’s electorate offices in Griffith, Deniliquin, and Buronga. Completed forms can be returned to any of these offices or submitted via email to murray@parliament.nsw.gov.au
