What are they hiding?
1,010 Sydney Harbours worth of rain falls on the Murray-Darling Basin every year. Only 4% of that reaches our rivers. Food production uses just 1.5%. And somehow, we are told there is not enough water to keep our farming communities alive.
The Murray-Darling Basin produces 100% of Australia's rice, most of our wine grapes, and billions of dollars in food exports. It is the engine room of this country. But the people making the decisions about our water will not show us the data, will not release the reports, and will not answer basic questions about where the water is actually going.
Every time I ask a straight question in Parliament, I get the same silence and diversion
If the water plan was working, they would be telling everyone. They are not. That should worry every Australian who eats food.
Country communities are not asking for special treatment. We are asking for the truth. Show us where the water is going. Show us who is getting it. Show us why our rivers are dying while someone, somewhere, is making a fortune.
Transparency is not a big ask. It is the bare minimum.
