The cracks in the Murray-Darling Basin Plan are no longer cracks – they’re gaping holes. In just weeks, we’ve seen environmental water flows across NSW suspended because authorities admit they can’t even understand their own rules. We’ve seen a Federal Court expose that Tanya Plibersek signed off on a multi-billion-dollar water plan without even reading it. And now, 28,000 irrigators are in the Supreme Court, alleging that the Murray-Darling Basin Authority’s gross mismanagement and incompetence cost farming families up to $1.5 billion in losses.

This isn’t misfortune. This is failure – systemic, dangerous, and devastating for Murray communities.

For too long, Basin politics has been treated like a paperwork game in Sydney and Canberra, while farmers, families, and towns in Murray are left to pay the price. Water has been wasted, rules have been bent, and livelihoods have been jeopardised.

Enough is enough. Premier Chris Minns must immediately legislate to stop any further water buybacks in NSW and halt this destructive Basin Plan before more damage is done. Our communities demand accountability, proper measurement, and a water system that secures our future – not one that gambles it away.
