Helen Dalton MP to steal water BACK from State Parliament Fountain.
Independent MP for Murray Helen Dalton will steal water from the fountain at State Parliament today in order to highlight government theft of water in the Murray Darling Basin.
“The Premier and his government continue to steal our water,” Helen said. “So I’m going to steal some water back and take it back to the farming families who are currently being robbed.”
In 2002, the people of regional NSW were asked to give “voluntary contributions” of water back to the Government.
“These contributions were meant to be voluntary and temporary”, Helen said.
“But instead of stopping after one year or five years, the NSW Government is still taking the water to this day.”
“And people don’t have a choice. We are just expected to shut up and hand over the water that we have paid for.”
“There is nothing voluntary about it.”
“It’s become water theft and it must stop now,” Helen said.
It’s estimated the current water theft by the State Government costs xxxx million in lost productivity every year.
“Premier Minns knows this water theft is unacceptable to voters in the regions,” Helen said. “He has the power to stop this water theft immediately and I call on him to do so, right now.”
“Otherwise, next time, I won’t be using buckets to steal water back from Parliament. If I have to do this again, I’m going to bring a water truck.”
