COME AND FACE THE COMMUNITY

Face The Community

I'm inviting MDBA boss Andrew McConville and Water Minister Murray Watt to come to Deniliquin and Leeton and look this community in the eye.

SunRice are shedding jobs and Leeton and Deniliquin communities are bearing the cost.

This is failed water policy. Federal buybacks have driven the cost of water through the roof while stripping the access our growers need to plant a crop. Make water too dear and too scarce, and this is what happens.

We are now not self-sufficient in rice. To meet even our small domestic needs, we will import it.

And this is not just rice. It's dairy and every irrigated crop that keeps these towns alive.

So the invitation stands. Come and face the community, or your silence tells the Riverina everything it needs to know.

This is why we need a Federal Royal Commission into water, so we can find out under oath just how badly this policy has failed us.
