COLEAMBALLY WINS BACK ITS POST OFFICE

Big win for Coleambally!

Australia Post has confirmed that Marilyn's Pharmacy will run a licensed post office from late October, and the staff are already doing their training. Almost nine months after they shut our post office with no warning and no consultation, postal services are coming back to town.

This didn't happen on its own. You wrote letters, you marched through Coleambally with me, and when Australia Post's CEO was at Parliament House in Sydney, I caught him in the foyer and made sure he understood exactly what this closure was doing to our community.

When you close a post office, you kill off the economy of a little rural town, and at first Australia Post didn't seem to care. Clearly we got their attention, because they have well and truly changed their tune.

This is proof that when rural communities fight back, we can win. Everyone involved in this fight should be very proud, and I hope corporate Australia is paying attention, because rural Australia will keep fighting back every time our services are threatened.

Well done, Coleambally. This win is yours.
