<image:title>Latest News - Buybacks Driving Food Prices Up</image:title>
<image:caption>Buybacks Driving Food Prices Up For twelve years, farmers in Murray have been warning anyone who would listen: the Murray-Darling Basin Plan's constraint projects cannot deliver the promised 450 gigalitres to South Australia. Last week, the Murray-Darling Basin Authority finally admitted it in a closed-door meeting—the infrastructure needed to move environmental water downstream doesn't exist and won't work. Yet Federal Water Minister Murray Watt keeps spending billions buying back water that his own agency confirms cannot be delivered. This water sits uselessly in upstream storages, turning our communities into flood zones while achieving nothing for the environment. Meanwhile, the MDBA refuses to publicly state what they've privately conceded, protecting political careers over our livelihoods. Here in Murray, we're not just talking about water—we're talking about the food bowl of Australia. As irrigation water gets stripped from productive use without functioning delivery systems, our dairy, grain, rice and horticulture production contracts. That flows directly to your checkout. Higher grocery prices. More imported food. Less resilience when drought or global supply shocks hit. Our population is growing rapidly, yet we're deliberately shrinking domestic food production based on a plan the government now admits doesn't work. I'm demanding Premier Minns withdraw NSW entirely from the Murray-Darling Basin Plan unless Federal buybacks stop immediately. The MDBA has admitted the delivery system has failed. Every dollar spent on buybacks is taxpayer money wasted—destroying regional communities, undermining our food security, and driving up the cost of living for every Australian family.</image:caption>

<image:title>Latest News - Gun Laws are NOT the issue.</image:title>
<image:caption>We have close to 10,000 law abiding firearms owners in Murray. None of them have behaved like terrorists or criminals, but they are being treated like they are. The State and Federal Governments need to properly track and arrest criminals, while also respecting law abiding citizens like the 10,000 rural gun owners in the seat of Murray.</image:caption>

<image:title>Latest News - Deniliquin High School Fire</image:title>
<image:caption>It’s been a tough few days for our community after the fire at our only high school in Deni — losing 30 classrooms is a massive blow, even though thankfully 18 were untouched. What’s really stood out is the incredible support from right across the community. People have stepped up straight away, offering help, space, supplies — whatever’s needed. It’s been a reminder of just how strong and united we are, even in the middle of something this devastating. I am in town and have met with Deni High Principal, Glen Warren, Principal Director of Education Leadership- Derek Noffke, Mayor- Ashley Hall, Edward River GM- Jack Bond, Deniliquin and Chief Inspector Michael Fuller from Deniliquin Police Station. I've been told that support classes will now be at Edward Public School, Year 11 will continue their studies at TAFE in the connected Learning Centre. Buses have been organised. Years 7, 8 and 9 will work from home for online learning. This has been in place since covid and is still available as a resource. Communication is incredibly important, and I’m pleased to have been told that the school phones have been reinstated today and will be operating between 8am to 5pm. The school will also have a meeting every afternoon and information will be sent out via email.</image:caption>

<image:title>Latest News - 1.3 BILLION DOLLAR BLOWOUT</image:title>
<image:caption>Billions Burnt, Basin Betrayed The Albanese Government is preparing to siphon off another $2.8 billion to buy water it cannot deliver, for “environmental outcomes” it cannot achieve, through a Basin Plan that even its own experts warn is “far from certain” to meet its targets. While just 170GL of the 450GL has been recovered, Canberra now wants taxpayers to foot a blowout of over $1.3 billion—all while the national debt clock spins like a slot machine and the Prime Minister quietly urges states to “cut spending” in essential services like health. It’s a double standard that hits Murray hardest: slash budgets for rural patients, but open the chequebook for water buybacks that rip jobs from irrigation towns and gut the food bowl that feeds Australia. What’s happening to Murray isn’t reform—it’s a slow, deliberate hollowing out of the communities that feed this nation. Every litre stripped from our region is a litre stripped from food production, small businesses, and the industries that hold our towns together. I’ve called it exactly what it is: economic vandalism and environmental fraud. Instead of addressing the real failures at the bottom of the river system—like the choking Murray Mouth, the mismanaged Lower Lakes, and South Australia’s diversions—Canberra keeps punishing the top, draining water from productive communities while delivering nothing in return. We deserve transparency, infrastructure, and technology-driven solutions—not another multi-billion-dollar raid on the very people who grow this nation’s food.</image:caption>

<image:title>Latest News - 76% Water buybacks increase</image:title>
<image:caption>Federal Labor has crossed the line. Murray Watt and Anthony Albanese just expanded Basin water buybacks to 300GL — despite the Minns NSW Government repeatedly saying they oppose destructive buybacks. This is a betrayal of NSW Basin communities. A betrayal of our farmers, our towns, and our food security. I’m calling on the Minns Government to finally back their words with action: Tell Canberra that NSW will withdraw from the Murray–Darling Basin Plan if these buybacks don’t stop. Our water isn’t political currency. Our communities aren’t expendable. NSW must stand up — now.</image:caption>

<image:title>Latest News - The people of Griffith have spoken — loud and clear.</image:title>
<image:caption>Council's survey results are in, and they're impossible to ignore: 62% of residents want to split from the Murrumbidgee Local Health District and create a new Western Riverina Local Health District. Another 31% want a local Griffith board. That means 93% of our community wants change. Only 3% support the status quo. Three percent. Even among health professionals, half back the split. They know what we all know — this system isn't working for us. For years, MLHD has centralised services in Wagga, blocked orthopaedics here in Griffith, and forced our families to travel over two hours for basic care. We've been treated like an afterthought in our own health district. Earlier this year, I introduced a bill to Parliament calling for a locally run Western Riverina Local Health District. Because you can't fix healthcare from a Wagga office. Decisions must be made here, by locals, for locals. People who understand our community, our needs, our challenges. This survey proves our community is united. We're done being ignored. And yesterday, Council listened. They voted to support the split and absolutely acknowledged that the current MLHD system has failed us. Now they must stand with me and this community to fight for what's right for our health needs. This is our moment. Let's finish what we started. Our healthcare. Our community. Our fight.</image:caption>

<image:title>Latest News - 2025 Uniting Political Courage Award</image:title>
<image:caption>Last night, I was deeply honoured to receive the 2025 Uniting Political Courage Award at the Harry Herbert Oration in Sydney. This award recognises political leaders who show integrity, principle, and a commitment to social justice — even when it’s not the easy path. I was recognised for my work on gambling reform — an issue that has harmed too many regional families for too long. I’ve seen firsthand the damage caused by poker machines and gambling addiction in our towns, and I’ve never been willing to stay silent about it. Standing up for fairness and social justice isn’t always easy, but it’s always the right thing to do. I want to thank Uniting NSW.ACT for this recognition — and share it with every regional Australian who’s spoken out for what’s right, even when it was hard.</image:caption>

<image:title>Latest News - MLHD split fact sheet</image:title>
<image:caption>Griffith deserves control of its own health. For too long, decisions about our hospital have been made hundreds of kilometres away. The result? Declining services, longer wait times, and local families forced to travel for basic care. Splitting from the Murrumbidgee Local Health District isn’t about politics — it’s about people. It’s about local doctors, nurses and managers finally having the power to deliver the services our community needs. This reform means: Decisions made in Griffith, not Wagga. Better access to specialists and critical care. Local accountability — and a hospital that can grow, not shrink. We’re calling for the creation of the Western Riverina Health District — a model built on fairness, independence, and common sense. It’s time to rebuild our health system from the ground up — and it starts right here.</image:caption>

<image:title>Latest News - 5G will kill rural Australians.</image:title>
<image:caption>When 3G was shut off, thousands across rural NSW lost the only reliable signal they had. Farmers, firefighters, nurses and volunteers are now working blind in deadly black spots that were supposed to be fixed years ago. You can’t call triple-zero if your phone says SOS only. You can’t upload a fire map or emergency update when there’s no reception. Every dropped call in the bush could be a life lost. Locals from Junee to Cann River say coverage has worsened since 5G arrived — yet we keep hearing that the maps look fine from behind a Sydney desk. Rural lives don’t exist on a map. Connectivity isn’t a luxury — it’s survival. We need urgent investment in reliable 5G and digital connectivity across regional NSW — before the next emergency turns fatal.</image:caption>

Right now, the NSW Government is asking for community feedback on whether our region should form its own Western Riverina Health District — giving locals a real say in how hospitals are run, staffed, and funded. For too long, decisions about our health have been made far from home. The result? Closed wards. Long waits. Families forced to travel hours for basic care. This is our chance to fix it — but only if we speak up. Make your submission here: https://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/.../inquiry-details... Submissions close soon — every voice matters. <image:title>Latest News - Canberra’s dirty little secret has spilled into view again.</image:title>
<image:caption>A burst main on Constitution Avenue has sent discoloured water gushing into Lake Burley Griffin — but for locals across Murray, this looks all too familiar. Behind the capital’s polished image lies a long-running hypocrisy: Canberra’s own sewage system has repeatedly leaked waste into the very rivers that feed the Murray–Darling Basin — the same system that sustains our farms, our fish, and our families downstream. While the Albanese Government lectures country communities on how to manage our water, its own backyard continues to dump pollution into the Basin. The Lower Molonglo Water Quality Control Centre — Canberra’s main treatment plant — released partially treated sewage into waterways three times in just three months during 2021, and again in 2022. Each time, the flows carried contaminants through the Molonglo, down the Murrumbidgee, and straight into our Murray. It’s time for accountability. We need an independent investigation into how Canberra’s unnaturally high phosphate discharges are fuelling toxic blue-green algae outbreaks across the Basin. The double standards from the capital — and the silence from the Albanese Government — can’t be ignored any longer.</image:caption>

<image:title>Latest News - MLHD FACT VS FICTION</image:title>
<image:caption>FACT VS FICTION The Murrumbidgee Local Health District is spreading misinformation about Murray’s push for its own Western Riverina Health District — and locals deserve to know the truth. For years, the MLHD has controlled decisions from afar while our hospitals have closed, our doctors have left, and our towns have suffered. Now they’re claiming our plan won’t work — but the evidence says otherwise. The facts are clear: Local doctors unanimously support a Western Riverina Health District. Communities get better healthcare when decisions are made closer to home. The MLHD has grown too big, too powerful, and too disconnected from the people it’s meant to serve. This isn’t about politics — it’s about honesty. It’s about giving Murray and the Western Riverina the fair, functional health system we deserve. Because every community deserves care managed by locals, not distant bureaucrats.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Three Sydney Harbours worth of Australian water — owned by The Canadian Mounties Canadian and American trust funds now control more than 1,778 million megalitres of water rights across the Murray–Darling Basin — that’s over three Sydney Harbours worth of our most precious resource. While Australian farmers battle rising costs and shrinking allocations, foreign funds are speculating on the very water that should be growing our food and sustaining our regional towns. Water is not a stock to be traded by foreign investors. It’s the foundation of our national food security. It’s time we drew the line: Australian water should be owned by Australians — and used to grow Australian food.</image:caption>

<image:title>Latest News - Murray-Darling Basin communities are NOT a political football - Make it stand out</image:title>
<image:caption>Murray-Darling Basin communities are NOT a political football For too long, major parties have traded away our Basin communities for votes in city electorates. They silence the voices of the people who live here, while chasing easy headlines and feel-good slogans. But let’s be clear: $26 BILLION of our food and fibre comes from the Basin every year. That’s 1 in every 3 dollars of Australia’s agricultural exports. Without Basin irrigation, there IS no Australia. Yet politicians keep asking: “How much can I sell out the Basin to win the next election?” Instead of asking: “What’s right for the Basin? What’s right for Australia?” Basin communities deserve better. Political games are destroying livelihoods, families, and our national economy. It must stop — NOW. No more water buy backs! <image:title>Latest News - BASIN SCAM- EPIC FAIL - Make it stand out</image:title>
<image:caption>BASIN SCAM- EPIC FAIL The cracks in the Murray-Darling Basin Plan are no longer cracks – they’re gaping holes. In just weeks, we’ve seen environmental water flows across NSW suspended because authorities admit they can’t even understand their own rules. We’ve seen a Federal Court expose that Tanya Plibersek signed off on a multi-billion-dollar water plan without even reading it. And now, 28,000 irrigators are in the Supreme Court, alleging that the Murray-Darling Basin Authority’s gross mismanagement and incompetence cost farming families up to $1.5 billion in losses. This isn’t misfortune. This is failure – systemic, dangerous, and devastating for Murray communities. For too long, Basin politics has been treated like a paperwork game in Sydney and Canberra, while farmers, families, and towns in Murray are left to pay the price. Water has been wasted, rules have been bent, and livelihoods have been jeopardised. Enough is enough. Premier Chris Minns must immediately legislate to stop any further water buybacks in NSW and halt this destructive Basin Plan before more damage is done. Our communities demand accountability, proper measurement, and a water system that secures our future – not one that gambles it away.</image:caption>

<image:title>Latest News - THE ENGINE ROOM OF AUSTRALIA - Make it stand out</image:title>
<image:caption>Australia’s food and fibre sector is a true powerhouse—worth more than $250 billion a year and employing over 600,000 people. At the heart of this success lies the Murray-Darling Basin, the irrigated regions that produce 85% of our nation’s food and fibre. From rice and wine to fruit, vegetables, cotton, and livestock, these areas occupy only a fraction of agricultural land yet sustain the bulk of our production. Murray is not just a regional concern—it is a national asset. Protecting it means stable food prices, secure exports, and resilient communities across the country. But we cannot afford to take this advantage for granted. Without a long-term, strategic approach, we risk undermining food security, export earnings, and the very communities that sustain our economy. That is why I have put forward a clear, practical roadmap—my 7 Point Water Plan—to deliver transparency, water quality, and smarter storage, while preventing harmful policies that hollow out production. This is how we secure affordable food, strong exports, and vibrant regional towns for generations to come. https://www.helendalton.com.au/7-point-plan</image:caption>

<image:caption>Sir Samuel McCaughey covering his eyes in shame as government's destroys the incredible success story of the M.I.A Over a century ago, Sir Samuel McCaughey invested his own fortune to carve canals through the plains of the Riverina, proving irrigation could transform our region into one of the world’s great food bowls. His vision at North Yanco laid the foundation for the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area — a triumph of foresight, engineering, and belief in the potential of Murray communities. McCaughey fought to secure water as the lifeblood of our future, and his success inspired government to build Burrinjuck Dam. He understood what every farmer knows: without water, our region withers. Yet today, McCaughey would hang his head in shame. A Royal Commission has found that the Murray-Darling Basin Authority acted unlawfully — ignoring science, concealing truths, and placing politics above people. Instead of protecting the river system, mismanagement has left communities strangled, farms uncertain, and the environment gasping. The legacy of prosperity McCaughey built is being dismantled by secrecy and incompetence. If our founding fathers could see this betrayal of their vision, they would be appalled. The people of Murray deserve better — honest management of our water, and a system that safeguards our future, not squanders it.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Too little, too late At the Bush Summit in Wagga Wagga, the Government announced $155m for a “road blitz” and $43m for drought “resilience.” But it won’t even scratch the surface. Our councils are broke, and locals deserve roads as safe as Sydney’s. And on drought? Farmers don’t need token workshops — they need real water infrastructure. Build dams. Build storage. Stop ripping water out of the bush with buybacks. Agriculture underpins Australia’s economy. Undermining our farmers undermines our nation. If governments are serious about resilience, they’ll fund real projects that keep rural communities alive — not throw crumbs while taking our water. #Murray #BetterRoads #RealDroughtAction #BushSummit</image:caption>

While their water policies rip $2 billion a year out of regional economies, they throw us a one-off cheque worth just a drop in the river. This isn’t about supporting our communities. It’s about buying silence. I’ve told Minister Moriarty we don’t want pocket change — we want sensible water policies that protect farmers, families and jobs along the Murray-Darling Basin. <image:title>Latest News - Metering Madness: NSW Water in Chaos</image:title>
<image:caption>Environmental water flows across NSW have been suspended – not because of drought, but because the very authorities in charge admit they can’t even understand their own rules. The Commonwealth Environmental Water Holder has confessed flows were halted after discovering the water authorities don’t understand the water-sharing policies they themselves wrote. The result? Millions of litres of environmental water now in limbo – and serious questions about whether farming families have had water unlawfully taken. This is proof of what locals have said all along: We don’t have a water problem – we have an accounting problem. If you can’t measure water, you can’t manage it. The NSW Government and the Murray Darling Basin Authority can’t meter. They can’t manage. They’ve admitted failure – and rural communities are paying the price. It’s time Premier Minns came clean. Rural Australians deserve answers. We deserve accountability. And we deserve leaders who know how to manage water, not waste it. Chris Minns</image:caption>

<image:caption>Following the 2018-2019 and 2023 fish kills in the Darling River, the NSW government has committed to spending $25 million dollars on temporary solutions and overspent business cases. This $25 million dollar investment is broken down into: $6 million being spent just to complete a "detailed business case" for the permanent structure that is desperately needed. $5 million for monitoring water quality and developing data frameworks—essentially spending millions to continue studying the problem rather than fixing it. $4.5 million is being used to design a "response sub-plan" for future mass fish deaths, institutionalizing a reactive approach instead of a preventative one. Another $1.7 million will be spent to "set up a new governance model," adding another layer of bureaucracy. We need real-cost effective-long term solutions such as the building of a permanent fishway in Menindee, or the removal of carp, instead of these band aid solutions.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The Murray-Darling Basin Authority has released its 2025 Basin Plan Evaluation, claiming "economic growth" and that "we are better off with the Basin Plan". The catch? Their success story is a statistical sleight-of-hand, measured against 2007—the absolute peak of the devastating Millennium Drought. Their own report even admits this growth was measured against a "low base". It’s a deliberate deception to hide the truth.</image:caption>

<image:title>Latest News - OUTRAGROUS WATER PRICES - The Labor Government’s outrageous water price hikes are a direct assault on Australia’s farming heartland, threatening to cripple the very communities that feed the nation. <image:title>Latest News - COST OF LIVING CRISIS - The government’s water policies are hitting Australians hard, raising farmers’ water bills by up to 341%, and Tanya Plibersek’s extra 100-gigalitre Murray-Darling buybacks are putting pressure on rural communities. The Murray region supplies 85% of NSW’s food, and the community is struggling. This isn’t just a challenge for farmers; it’s a growing cost-of-living issue for everyone, even in the city. The government’s approach is undermining our food supply, and households will feel the impact at the register.</image:title>

<image:title>Latest News - 600 MILLION FOR OFF-SHORE FOOTY AND NOTHING FOR US? - Anthony Albanese has pledged $600 million over the next decade to establish a Papua New Guinea team in the NRL. Meanwhile, Water Minister Tanya Plibersek is overseeing the removal of 250 gigalitres of water from our regional communities—areas that produce 80% of NSW’s food—offering just $160 million in compensation for a rural economy set to lose billions. Her recent approval of an additional 100 GL in water buybacks will cost taxpayers over half a billion more, further jeopardising our agricultural heartland. This is a stark misalignment of priorities: the government is committing almost 4 times as much to an overseas sports initiative than to mitigate the devastating economic fallout in our regions. When the next drought arrives, the absence of Australian-grown food on supermarket shelves will be a direct consequence of these decisions. This is not governance in the national interest—it’s a failure of accountability.</image:title>

<image:title>Latest News - MND SURVEILLANCE CENTRE - I have been fighting for years to get answers on the shockingly high rates of Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in our region. Now, with the establishment of the new MND Surveillance Centre in Wagga, we are finally one step closer to uncovering the truth. This issue has been deeply concerning for our communities, particularly in Griffith and Wagga Wagga, where MND rates are up to seven times higher than the national average. For too long, the link between blue-green algae and this devastating disease has been ignored. This research is a crucial step forward, but I won’t stop fighting until we get real answers, real action, and real solutions for this issue.</image:title>

<image:title>Latest News - AUDITOR GENERAL REPORT FAIL - The Auditor General’s report on Tanya Plibersek’s water buybacks may seem positive on the surface, but if you look deeper, it is a brutal reality check for the water minister. She’s nailed the paperwork, but the report lays bare her total failure to connect the dots—grabbing more water while rural communities get crushed, and the Murray Darling Basin’s environment sees no real wins. The National Irrigators’ Council states that the report shows a well-paved road but questions, to where? These child-like “Just add water” Solutions to complex environmental issues. Plibersek is happy to take another 100 GL out of our already struggling community, but is too scared to actually come out to the regions she is draining the lifeblood out of. The government must address the real environmental issues like the fact that 90% of biomass in our rivers is carp, instead of persisting with these destructive policies.</image:title>

Regional Australians have a 40% higher disease burden, shorter lifespans, and worse access to medical services than city dwellers. In 2020-21 alone, there was a $6.5 billion shortfall in rural healthcare spending. it's time for action, Rural people pay their taxes like everyone else, yet they’re treated as second-class citizens when it comes to healthcare. We need real investment in rural hospitals, mental health services, ambulance funding, and local healthcare workers. <image:title>Latest News - PLIBERSEK OPENS THE FLOOD GATES - Tanya Plibersek is quietly pushing ahead with another 100 gigalitres of Murray-Darling water buybacks that will destroy our community. Rural towns are already struggling, and this is just another nail in the coffin from the federal government. This isn’t water management—it’s political manoeuvring. They’re not even waiting to see the full impact of their last round of buybacks! <image:title>Latest News - Record 8.6 billion dollar poker machine losses - NSW's poker machine losses have surged to a record $8.64 billion in 2024, marking a 6.3% increase from last year. This isn't just a statistic—it's a devastating blow to families, local economies, and vulnerable individuals across our communities. Despite the government's 2023 reforms, including lower cash input limits and restrictions on gambling signage, the reality is clear: these measures have failed to curb the harm. The gambling industry continues to thrive while problem gambling rates soar, particularly in rural areas where support services are scarce. I have long pushed for stronger poker machine reform, including a mandatory cashless gambling card to increase accountability and prevent money laundering. Powering down poker machines between midnight and 10 a.m. is another straightforward step that could provide immediate relief and help reduce gambling-related harm. The NSW Government must stop bowing to gambling industry interests and start prioritizing community welfare. We need real reform—not watered-down policies that do nothing to stop billions from being drained from our communities every year.</image:title>

<image:title>Latest News - FALSE statement by MLHD - The FALSE statement by MLHD that splitting the district into two "Would see more patients needing to travel further from their homes to access appropriate care", implying that the Government is going to downgrade Wagga Wagga Base Hospital from a regional hub – Regional referral Hospital, is completely false and is purely scaremongering. The truth is, the establishment of the Western Riverina Health District would enhance healthcare services by upgrades to Griffith Base Hospital like 24/7 emergency Orthopaedic surgery, Mental Health etc. with a better locally managed budget and necessary recruitment. Obvious improvements that would significantly reduce the need for patient transfers to the already busy Wagga Wagga referral hospital, leading to better health outcomes for the entire community. This reorganisation would significantly decrease travel distances for residents of WRHD towns by a combined total of 1181km, ensuring that patients can receive appropriate care closer to home.</image:title>

<image:title>Latest News - Call to split from MLHD - Today in Parliament, I called for a split from the Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) to create the Western Riverina Health District. For too long, MLHD has failed our communities- and has not followed through on a number of issues such as the two orthopaedic surgeons that were promised in 2021. Yet 4 years later we still have NONE. This Western Riverina Health district will include Deniliquin, Jerilderie, Berrigan, Finley, Leeton, Griffith, Hay, Hillston, Lake Cargelligo, Balranald, Barham, Moulamein and Tocumwal. By bringing healthcare decisions closer to home, we can work toward proper staffing, improved services, and better outcomes for Western Riverina residents. A local health focus will save local lives. I’ll be speaking with NSW Health Minister Ryan Park urgently on this. It's time for real change.</image:title>

<image:title>Latest News - The Labor Government is reaching straight into your pocket - The Labor Government is reaching straight into your pocket with outrageous water price hikes. This will see farmers' water bills in NSW to skyrocket by up to 341% by 2030. Meanwhile, city households will only face a 50% increase in water charges. These costs will push farms to the brink, driving up food prices and forcing Australian food off the shelves. Food imports have already surged by $7 billion in just two years, reaching almost $40 billion in 2023-24. These figures will only increase if the Labor Government continues this water mismanagement. Farmers are already battling soaring costs, now the government expects them to shoulder the bulk of water infrastructure and environmental costs, despite using only 25% of total flows. This isn’t just a crisis for farmers—it’s a crisis for all Australians. The Murray region produces 85% of NSW’s food, and when farmers are forced out, food prices will surge nationwide. Every Australian household is already feeling the cost-of-living squeeze, and these water price hikes will only make it worse.</image:title>

<image:title>Latest News - $250 Million for what? - The NSW Government has spent $250 million on a brand new Griffith Base Hospital, yet they’ve only added 7.3 new staff. That’s completely inadequate for our regional Base Hospital growing medical needs. To make matters worse, when Health Infrastructure and MLHD were designing the hospital, they failed to properly consult the clinicians on the ground. As a result, we have only two operating theatres when we should have four. Right now, there’s only funding to run 1.2 theatres, despite having seven surgeons on board. If this isn’t fixed, we risk losing essential specialists and services. Griffith Base had 24/7 emergency orthopaedic surgery capabilities which was stripped along with other vital medical services. MLHD/s response that they are recruiting now is not a sufficient answer and the comment “the new Hospital wont have less beds or services” than the old stripped Hospital is also inadequate. This is exactly why MLHD cannot be trusted to manage Griffith’s healthcare. Bureaucrats in Wagga are making decisions that don’t reflect the needs of our community. We need our own Griffith Health District with its own budget and management—so local experts, not distant administrators, determine our healthcare future. I will keep them accountable and ensure Griffith Region gets the funding, staff, and services it deserves and needs. This community won’t stand for second-rate healthcare.</image:title>

<image:title>Latest News - Water costs skyrocket - The NSW Irrigators Council's prediction that general security water costs in the Murrumbidgee Valley will skyrocket by 130% by 2030—and high-security water by 142%—is a disaster waiting to happen. These price hikes will cripple local farmers, drive food production offshore, and leave Australians unable to afford homegrown food. This is the direct result of Canberra’s mismanagement of the Murray-Darling Basin. Instead of prioritising water security for farmers who feed the nation, the Federal Government is obsessed with buybacks and environmental flows that do nothing to fix water quality issues like pollution and invasive carp. If these price hikes go ahead, there will be no Aussie food on supermarket shelves during the next drought.</image:title>

<image:title>Latest News - Our irrigation communities are being closed down by our government! - Our communities are being left to wither. Poor water management under the Basin Plan is forcing farmers off their land and out of business. Without urgent action, the next drought could leave Australian supermarket shelves empty of Aussie grown food, with General security water bills projected to increase by 130% and High security bills rising by a projected 142% by 2030. 85% of food for NSW comes out of the Murray region, meaning this issue will have a massive impact on the whole state This isn’t just a farming issue—it’s a national crisis. The Basin plan’s "just add water" approach is failing us all. We need policies that prioritize sustainable water use and protect our farmers. Stand for our community and call for real reform. Our future depends on it.</image:title>

<image:title>Latest News - $10 million funding for housing infrastructure in Griffith - The $10 million federal funding for housing infrastructure in Griffith is a positive step forward and will help address the housing crisis—but is it enough to undo the impact of years of inaction? Griffith has been struggling with severe housing shortages for over a decade. Following the 2013 housing collapse, new home construction fell from 250 homes per year to just 13. Today, despite some progress, only 40-80 homes are built annually. This limited growth has caused skyrocketing rents, declining economic activity, and rising homelessness. I welcome this funding, as it will go a long way toward restoring confidence and helping Griffith attract families and essential workers. However, the community needs swift and decisive action. Griffith City Council has had a Housing Strategy in place since 2019. It’s time to fast-track development applications and ensure these projects proceed without further delays. The people of Griffith cannot afford to wait any longer. It’s also crucial to address the bigger picture. Reckless water policies, like the Murray-Darling Basin Plan and ongoing water buybacks, have shattered confidence in both council and government. These policies have contributed to the broader crisis in our region. This funding is a good start, but I will keep fighting for lasting solutions that tackle the root causes of Griffith’s housing crisis and deliver fairness for our community.</image:title>

<image:title>Latest News - Are We Being Misled About Waterbird Decline? - Australia's waterbird numbers have reportedly halved, but here's the kicker: these claims rely on aerial surveys over limited sites, year after year. Birds are migratory—they follow resources, not just floodplains. Counting them from an aeroplane over the same areas? That’s not science, it’s guesswork. Floods can help ecosystems, but to say birds breed only in Ramsar-listed wetlands is oversimplified. Our migratory water birds aren't that stupid, they don't have permanent habitat, and they don't pay mortgages. They have wings and they understand our ephemeral environment. They're called MIGRATORY for a reason, They fly to where the conditions are good!!! And these surveys don’t capture that. Shouldn't we demand better data—ground studies and more comprehensive research—before sounding alarms? The health of our ecosystems matters, but let’s get the facts straight first.</image:title>

<image:title>Latest News - NSW Wetlands failure - The NSW Government is rushing to finalize water sharing plans by July 1, but their hasty approach is causing chaos for farmers. Instead of conducting proper on-ground checks, bureaucrats are relying on flawed maps to declare prime agricultural land as wetlands. One farmer, Jim Cush, was shocked to find that a channel in the middle of his wheat paddock was labelled as a wetland. “The government had even declared a depression in the middle of a neighbour’s wheat paddock, which occasionally filled up with water after heavy rain, as a wetland,” he said. Farmers now have until February 2 to prove these mistakes or face strict restrictions on water use. This rushed process ignores the realities on the ground and places an unfair burden on landholders. With 93% of Murray-Darling Basin wetlands on private property, collaboration is key—but instead, the government is pushing flawed policies without consultation. Farmers and irrigation groups are calling for a 3-year delay to correct mapping errors and work with landholders to identify real wetlands. It’s time for the NSW Government to listen. This relates to point 6 of my 7-point plan- "Ban Government floods "It's time for real change!</image:title>

<image:title>Latest News - Plibersek feeds the narrative that we are using too much water, yet the Stats don’t lie! - Plibersek feeds the narrative that we are using too much water, yet the Stats don’t lie! NSW and Victorian irrigators have halved their water use over the past 30 years, reducing diversions below the Murray Darling Basin Plan targets. Yet federal government buybacks continue, sparking outcry from farmers and local communities. Trend analysis shows Victorian and NSW irrigators’ water usage has dropped nearly 50% since 1997-98, Meanwhile, diversions in South Australia fell only 22%, and Queensland's rose by 58%. Claire Miller, CEO of NSW Irrigators Council, criticized the continued buybacks: “The Basin Plan disproportionately hurts some regions, especially those reliant on rice and dairy production. Additional buybacks are unnecessary and won’t address core environmental challenges like invasive carp damaging water quality. ” Federal authorities defend buybacks, citing complex factors influencing water usage. However, former National Irrigators Council Chair Jeremy Morton argued, “Diversions are already below Sustainable Diversion Limits (SDLs). Further recovery is unnecessary and hurts production.” We demand the change that is necessary to hold the other states accountable and reduce the impact this will have on our community as a whole.</image:title>

<image:title>Latest News - Plibersek must address the devistating cARP Epidemic - Tanya Plibersek’s “just add water” approach to the Murray-Darling Basin is nothing short of child-like. Instead of addressing real threats like invasive carp that destroy water quality and habitats, billions are wasted on ineffective water recovery schemes. There are over 145 carp for each person amongst the 2.4 million people who live along the Murray River system, that destroy our water ways, yet Tanya Plibersek has not proposed a solution. This isn’t leadership—it’s negligence. Our communities deserve a water minister who puts their interests first and takes meaningful action to solve the Basin's growing crises. <image:title>Latest News - The Hidden Deception of Modern Poker Machines - Modern poker machines (pokies) are designed to mislead, using Random Number Generators (RNGs) to create illusions of chance. These "spinning reels" and "animated cards" simulate randomness but predetermine outcomes—trapping users in a cycle of false hope and financial harm. This isn’t real gambling; it's a systemic deception that misrepresents users' money and exploits their trust. The chance of winning a typical $5,000 prize on a $1 poker machine is approximately 9,700,000 to 1, these machines are rigged to ensure that for every dollar you spend, you will only receive 85c back. Clubs and pubs are taxed up to 27% on all profits from poker machines yet still in the first half of the 2023-2024 financial year, total revenue from poker machines in NSW reached $4.1 billion, marking an increase of $217 million (5.29%) compared to the same period in the previous year, I wonder how much the government is making? Lives, families, and communities are destroyed by the manipulation, yet the industry thrives under weak regulations and public apathy. Action is Needed: Demand transparency and accountability. Push for stronger consumer protections. Educate yourself and others about the dangers of pokies. Let's address this harmful practice and protect our communities.</image:title>

<image:title>Latest News - 40 BILLION DOLLAR FOOD IMPORTS - How long until there is no Aussie food on the shelves? Australia’s food imports have skyrocketed to nearly $40 billion in 2023-24, marking a $7 billion increase over just two years. This trend spells trouble for our hardworking local producers in the Murray and across the country. Why the Increase? Major supermarkets expanding international food aisles. Soaring costs for local producers, from energy to raw materials. Trade agreements creating challenges for Australian-made products. The Impact on Local Producers Loss of market share to cheaper imported goods. Strained supply chains, with local businesses forced to source ingredients from overseas. A weakening of Australia's proud "homegrown" food identity My Take Our farmers and food manufacturers are the backbone of the Murray electorate and beyond. We can’t afford to let them be priced out of their livelihoods. I have consistently fought for policies that support rural industries, including implementing smart water management to keep local businesses competitive, instead of this child-like "Just add water" approach. <image:title>Latest News - 1st JOB for Daryl Quinlivan AO: Accountability & Punish Wrong doing - The Murray–Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) has been rocked by damning revelations from the Australian National Audit Office (ANAO), exposing misuse of government credit cards, inappropriate acceptance of gifts, and poor management of hospitality. These findings show a clear lack of accountability in an organisation tasked with managing Australia’s most critical water resource. The ANAO audit revealed: 17 instances of corporate credit card misuse in just three years. Hospitality policies repeatedly ignored, with alcohol and dinners paid on public funds. Inconsistent enforcement of gift policies, even during an active audit. Incoming MDBA Chair Daryl Quinlivan AO, stepping in on 23 December, has a massive challenge ahead. His first priority must be to restore credibility by holding those responsible to account and ensuring robust systems are in place to prevent future misconduct. Our communities demand answers: How will the MDBA ensure these behaviours are punished and not repeated? What steps will be taken to protect the Basin’s integrity and taxpayer funds? The Murray–Darling Basin is too important to be undermined by internal failures. The first job of the new leadership must be real accountability, not just words.</image:title>

<image:title>Latest News - MDBA dines at our community's expense - he Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) has exposed shocking misuse of public funds by the Murray Darling Basin Authority (MDBA), all while our communities bear the brunt of their 13-billion-dollar water mismanagement. Misuse of Government Credit Cards: -17 instances of improper use of corporate credit cards, including alcohol-dominated hospitality tabs, despite strict guidelines. In one case, the chief executive’s corporate card was used to cover an alcohol-heavy bill. Exceeding Travel and Meal Allowances: Senior officials overspent on tier-one travel allowances five times and went over pre-approved meal budgets six times between May 2023 and May 2024. Workshops at Our Expense: During a catered workshop, an EL2 official asked for advice on which code to use to reimburse a dinner for six officials—highlighting a lack of accountability even in routine matters. These examples show a shocking disregard for public funds while the MDBA continues to fail our rivers, communities, and farmers. Our communities are demanding integrity and action. It’s time to refocus on the real issues: saving our rivers and supporting our communities—not lining up for another round of drinks.</image:title>
